April 18</p><p> 2001 - basketball star Kobe Bryant and Vanessa Laine, in Dana Point, Calif. Bryant gave Laine a 7 carat diamond engagement ring 6 months after they met. They exchanged their wedding vows in a religious ceremony at St. Edward Catholic Church.</p><p> 1941 - singer/actress Deanna Durbin and Vaughn Paul, in Los Angeles. The couple had originally planned to wed at the home of Durbin's parents, but when the guest list reached 900, they changed the venue to the Wilshire Methodist Episcopal Church. Their wedding date was Durbin's parent's 33rd wedding anniversary. The reception took place in the Florentine Room at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.</p><p> April 19</p><p> 1956 - Prince Rainier of Monaco and Grace Kelly, in Monaco-Ville, Monaco. At the end of the Nuptial Mass, a message was read out from the Pope. Following the ceremony, the royal couple drove through the streets of Monte Carlo in an open-top car, waving to thousands of well-wishers. They spent their honeymoon cruising around the Mediterranean on Prince Rainier's yacht.</p><p> April 20</p><p> 2002 - actor Kyle MacLachlan and Desiree Gruber, in Miami. The religious ceremony took place at Miami's Plymouth Congregational Church and the reception was held at the Biltmore Hotel. The couple showed off their ballroom dancing skills to a recording of Frank Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight." Celebrity guests included Chris Noth, Heidi Klum and Naomi Campbell.</p><p> 2002 - baseball star Mark McGwire and Stephanie Slemer, in Las Vegas. Together they created the Mark McGwire Foundation for Children to support agencies that help children who have been sexually and physically abused come to terms with a difficult childhood</p><p> April 22</p><p> 2000 - football star Emmitt Smith and Patricia Southall, in Dallas. The wedding took place at Dallas' First Baptist Church where the couple exchanged marriage vows in front of hundreds of friends, family and football colleagues. Smith surprised Southhall with a marriage proposal during his 30th birthday party in front of both of their families who had flown in for the party.</p><p> April 23</p><p> 1951 - actor Audie Murphy and Pamela Archer. A year after their wedding the couple was still receiving about 4-to-5 wedding gifts a week from fans. Murphy was the most decorated American soldier of World War II. After the war he became a celebrated movie star for over two decades, appearing in 44 films. He and Archer, a former airline stewardess, had two boys.</p><p> April 24</p><p> 1992 - rock star David Bowie and supermodel Iman, in Lausanne, Switzerland and Florence, Italy. The civil ceremony took place in Lausanne and the religious ceremony was held at St. James Episcopal Church in Florence, Italy. Bowie wrote songs for the religious ceremony which included elements of both the Christian and Muslim faiths. Yoko Ono and U2's Bono were among the 65 attendees at the reception.</p><p> 1954 - actor Peter Lawford and Patricia Kennedy, in New York City. Lawford proposed to Kennedy on the phone while she was in Japan. After hearing her accept his offer, he greeted her at the airport in San Francisco airport with an eight-carat diamond engagement ring. The wedding ceremony took place at The Church of Saint Thomas More, and some 250 guests attended the reception at the Plaza Hotel.</p><p> 1943 - actress Jane Russell and Bob Waterfield.
